An eventful week...

Well, we have had an interesting week:

Unfortunately, one of our choreographers lost her father in the afternoon of Monday, March 1st. He had fought a long battle with diabetes (resulting in several other ailments) but she is assured that he is now whole and free from pain in a much better place. Kudos also go to her for the strength of will and character to rehearse the death scene (of all things!) the following evening. We love you, Jen, and we’re praying for you and your family!

My nephew made his appearance in the wee hours of the morning of that same day. Because I am not one to go crazy over babies, I can tell you with a completely unbiased opinion that he is beautiful. Before he was born he gave us a little bit of a scare that resulted in an emergency c-section but both Mum and baby are home and doing well.

So, what about the show? This week we spent some time working on the capes (wings) for our praying mantis (Flamenco) dancers. We are currently working to incorporate our actors into the scenes with our dancers. The final blocking will take place at the theater but for now we are making certain there is no chance of an embarrassing collision onstage. One of the challenges for the "healing" scene, in particular, will be getting three dancers to emote so that they do not get lost among the actors (or worse, lose the audience’s attention). The dance style is lyrical but it appears none of the dancers have performed in this genre (most of them are students of Classical Ballet) and I am trying to get them to be more expressive and “loosen up” just a tad. We have someone videotaping the rehearsal and I am hoping that watching themselves will spark some new inspiration in these dancers. Also, any tips/suggestions would be appreciated!

Today we added twenty kids (under the age of 10) to the show. Honestly, I did not know what to expect when we heard it was the producer's desire to have that many children in a scene. They turned out to be a great bunch of kids although I am still relieved that they are only appearing in one scene for the "cute factor." Even though they are an attentive, well-behaved group, it is still a big job to coordinate them.

We are all getting a little excited and stressed because the show is coming up very quickly... It was neat to hear today that one show is almost sold out!
