5 Things: Beantown Edition

"Boston's Waterfront" photo by MEJones
In light of the terrible happening in beautiful Boston, this week's Five Things is a tribute to Beantown. Please keep the families of the victims and those struggling with witnessing the carnage in your prayers this weekend.

1) The Freedom Trail - 16 historical sites along the red brick path take one along about two centuries of American history. Boston has an amazing history that really highlights the major events of Colonial and Revolutionary America. Check out the videos on the right side of the Freedom Trail website and see for yourself!

2) Fenway Park - The iconic home of the Redsox. Technically, we're supposed to be arch-rivals (I'm a Yankees fan) but today we'll let bygones be bygones and appreciate the venue that turns 101 years-old this weekend having opened April 20, 1912.  Just think of all the great players that graced that diamond. Wow!

3) Boston Harbor - Best known for the Boston Tea Party Boston harbor is a beautiful spot where you can't really take a bad picture (of the scenery-I have definitely had a bad picture taken of me!). There is also a neat Harborwalk from Charlestown to Dorchester and some pretty little islands.

4) Boston Public Library - Founded in 1848, the Boston Public Library has the distinction of many "firsts" in addition to being a wonderful old building. The collections of books (and even murals on the walls) make this spot a books lover's paradise.

5) Faneuil Hall Marketplace - Dating back to 1742, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a neat place to visit for shopping, eating and seeing some fun and interesting outdoor shows. Fun fact: the marketplace was nicknamed "The Cradle of Liberty" because it hosted many great American speakers like Oliver Wendall Holmes and Susan B. Anthony.

Question of the week: What is your favorite thing about Boston?
