2013 Christmas Crafts: Part 3 ("Merry Christmas" Garland)

Happy Thursday! We hope you are enjoying our Christmas Crafts this week because we certainly had a great time making them. (Seriously! We laughed A LOT!) Today check out our "Merry Christmas" Garland (although you can definitely spell anything you like!) as a fun idea for some different decor for that empty wall or railing that is just begging for something festive.

What You Need:

  • Wooden letters (spelling out your phrase of choice, of course!)
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  • Acrylic Paint (Satin or Metallic work very well)
  • Paint brush
  • Rope/twine (for hanging... we used natural jute rope from Hobby Lobby)
  • Glue gun (and glue!)

Just start by giving the letters a little sanding and then wipe them down with a damp (not soaked) cloth to remove the sawdust.

When that is dry get started applying your acrylic paint. You'll probably need two coats so let the first coat dry completely before doing a second.  (Most brands recommend an hour between coats)

If you feel like getting a little more involved, you can embellish with some pretty painted designs, stamped patterns or even rhinestones but the letters look absolutely stunning without any fancy stuff.

Now you're going to measure out your rope/twine and glue the letters on. Make sure you press the letter against the twine (on a flat surface covered in newspaper is a good idea) to insure that they are stuck together.

And that's it! Hang and enjoy :)
