5 Things: Unorthodox Austen edition

Happy Friday! Spring (and allergy season) have sprung and that seems to be a good thing. I think all of us are pretty much over winter for the time being and shopping for time shares on tropical islands for next year. Best of all it's the end of the week and time for some more "5 Things" to get you through the day:

1) Monte Saint-Michel in France is surrounded by water except for one tide every 18 years. It created quite the spectacle this week when visitors could walk to the island. What a beautiful spot!

2) In my internet travels I stumbled across a series of articles written last year "Reading Jane Austen in light of Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas." Br. Aquinas Beale's analysis on her writing is very interesting. I even enjoyed his reflection on Mansfield Park, my least favorite of Austen's works.

3) Speaking of stumbles across the internet, I also found these Surprise Cheddar Biscuits from Vodka&Biscuits. Breakfast (at any hour of the day, really) is my favorite thing. As it happens I also adore biscuits but they always seem to lack any really nutritional value. Well, here we are with one problem solved. These biscuits are packed with protein. Yum!

4) In addition to my love of Jane Austen, my love of polymer clay is probably pretty well-known around here by now. Well, Teri from The Lovely Drawer has a great polymer clay coaster tutorial (and tea recipe). I can't wait to try it just in time for Spring "tea on the porch" weather.

5) Last but not least I just finished reading (in a record three days!) Deborah Feldman's memoir Unorthodox. The book is a very enlightening look into the Hasidic Jewish tradition of the Satmar community. Is this the best writing I've ever read? Definitely not but I appreciate the glimpse behind this tightly knit and guarded way of life.

Okay, that's all for now. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
