5 Things: Galileo, Matilda, Rush Edition

Happy Friday! Hope you all had a great week like this janitor from Bristol University who got a sweet surprise from the students. (That was a really nice surprise!) But even if no one sent you on a tropical vacation (and just piled a bunch of files on your desk as your "surprise"), it's Friday and times for "5 Things" that I hope you'll enjoy:

1) The Tonight Show has finally brought back "Kid Theater" in honor of Jack Black's new film The House with a Clock in its Walls.

2) A researcher visiting London recently made a lucky discovery in the form of a letter from none other than Galileo! (Go ahead, I know you want to sing it... "Galileo, Figaro!") The stunner is that Galileo was a bit of a politician and a scientist. Interesting read!

3) Roald Dahl's books were a staple of my childhood and Matilda, especially, got me through many a rainy afternoon (and there were a lot of them!). Now, the book's illustrator Quentin Blake has created a special edition for the book's 30th anniversary including an adult Matilda. A delightful idea and definitely a good reason to read the book, again!

4) Have you ever heard of Benjamin Rush? I'm fairly certain I did in history class years ago but am surprised that he isn't mentioned very often! Fortunately, Stephen Fried decided to do something about it. Now, who wants to write a musical? "Rush" isn't a bad title at all!

5) I love the idea of "Dance Your Ph.D!" This is an annual contest (11 years running!) where docs get to show off their moves to show off their research. Some of the past entries are pretty good... I learned a lot!

Okay, that's all for now. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
