5 Things: 40% More Novels Edition

Happy Friday! Hope you all had a great week like the boy whose doodling habit turned into a real-life gig! That's something hopeful for all you doodlers out there, right? Well, even if your doodling habit (or writing, photography, etc.) didn't get discovered this week, you have made it to Friday, my friends. That means the weekend and another "5 Things." Enjoy!

1) By now, you may be aware that I enjoy a lot of things from past decades (including old books and classic episodes of What's My Line?). As a result, YouTube has taken to recommending PSAs from the 1950's. The one titled When Should I Marry? is both amusing and highly practical at the same time.

2) Recently, the BBC compiled a list of "The Novels that Changed Our World." 100 of them, in fact. I'm a little surprised at some of them (others of the author's titles tended to be more polarizing) but it's a pretty decent list overall. I've only read about 1/3 of the books on the list. What about you?

3) Microsoft in Japan has discovered something rather interesting: A "4-Day Workweek Boosted Workers' Productivity by 40%." Coming back refreshed after a long weekend would definitely be an asset. I love that the payback to the company was lower electric bills and less printing. Maybe more companies will take notice soon!

4) Bon Apetit challenged one of their professional chefs to make a "raindrop cake." (Admittedly, the confection looks entirely like a raindrop and not at all like a cake.) It definitely would be interesting to try one although this is probably not a recipe that I'll attempt anytime soon.

5) This is pretty darn adorable: Who better to call than the police when you are turning 5 and determined to have a police-themed birthday?

Okay, that's all for now. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and be sure to thank a veteran on Monday (11/11/19) for Veteran's Day!
