Movie Monday: I'll have what she's having

A product of the super-duo of director Rob Reiner and writer/producer Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally is one of those quintessential Romantic Comedies that you simply have to watch. I do have to admit, though, that until I was an adult, I had no idea that the language sometimes left a little to be desired. (This chid of the 80's watched the dubbed version on TV for the longest time!) It is rated "R" but likely for the regular F-bomb appearances and the "I'll have what she's having" scene.

The Plot: Two strangers and recent college graduates named Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) and Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) meet as an arrangement to be travel buddies in a car ride to New York City. The road trip is fraught with conflict ("Men and women cannot be friends.") and the two are glad to be rid of each other when they arrive in their new lives.

Harry and Sally bump into each other at various points but never really reconnect until Harry's marriage fails. It's then that the two realize that their opposite personalities actually make for a great friendship... and more.

Why It's Great: Writer Nora Ephron is the queen of Rom-Com dialogue. One of the best things about this film is the fact that the two protagonists talk to each other A LOT. Their conversations are fast-paced and, in many cases, realistic to what an actual couple might talk about.

Meg Ryan's 80's hair and wardrobe are also fantastic. Like a little journey back in time.

Did I mention that the little vignettes of elderly couples who talk about their "how me met" stories? Adorable! There's also one of the greatest "we're getting back together" scenes that also explains the Rom-Com trope:

You can watch When Happy Met Sally right now on Amazaon Prime!

Have a great week!
